THE BIO HEALTH CHANNEL, A CONTINUED GROWTH FOR 10 YEARS

2,200 researchers in the life sciences, 721 companies with 21,000 employees for a turnover of 6.2 billion euros 2.5 billion of which in export, all make up the local biohealth channel (figures for 2004).

The third largest health centre in France, this channel comprised of SMEs (the average staff per company being 30 employees), and worldwide leaders, has undergone strong and continued growth for ten years.

46% of companies (335) are active in the biomedical sector, 31% in pharmaceutical biotechnologies (222), 16% in specialised services and 7% in health-related information and communication technology.

Working on behalf of such companies are 7 universities, more than 15,000 students in the life sciences and health, 23 schools of engineering that train 10% of France’s engineers and over 300 research laboratories.
